After a fleeting modelling career, Madeline Smith was memorable in all three of her Hammer roles: prostitute Dolly in TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA, sexually naïve Emma in THE VAMPIRE LOVERS, and mute Sarah in FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL. A Bond girl under personal recommendation from Roger Moore for LIVE AND LET DIE, Smith spent most of the 1970s as archetypal British crumpet in numerous TV light entertainment programmes. Possessing an impish, innocent persona, her spectacular figure was allegedly boosted by liberal amounts of muesli yogurt.

Madeline vs. J. Edward Oliver

British cartoonist J. Edward Oliver achieved fame in the 1970s with a strip in Disc (and Music Echo) which became Record Mirror. Including film, TV and music personalities, one favoured celebrity was Smith. When the actress complained about her portrayals, Oliver stopped drawing her ... but not before one last strip about the call he received from the starlet. Smith's complaint, however, seems in contrast to her more recent reminisces, where the actress embraces her label of prime crumpet. Oliver also created strips for Buster, Whizzer and Chips and Whoopee.
